Will the coreopsis regrow?!?!

I had three beautiful blooming coreopsis in the ground and the absolute bastard slugs have eaten not only every flower and flower bud but also every single leaf.

I am left with literally long, green, bare stems half the height they were.

I have dug one up, cut the stems back and replanted it in a big pot with my fennel in the hope it will regrow and escape the slugs (I am yet to find slug damage in my big pots..)

Do you think it will recover and grow fresh leaves?
Or are three goners and better binned?

Coreopsis can be annuals or perennials, have you had them longer than this year? If you have, they're herbaceous perennials and the top growth will naturally die back over the winter and it sprout new shoots next year. You can cut off the remaining stems on them, they may well start to regrow this year depending on the weather but it probably won't be up to much as we head into autumn (fewer hours of daylight trigger plants' response to stop growth and start preparing for winter).

Unfortunately slugs and snails do find them delicious, so you are doing the right thing putting them in big pots. I'm sure they'll be fine next year. Coreopsis is quite robust so no need to put the pots somewhere sheltered over winter.

I bought them this year, I was under the impression they are perennial varieties, sunray think one was, I forget the other two, they have a splotch of red on each petal, sunfire maybe?

All is not lost then Grin Slugs and snails are awful, there's never a hedgehog around when you need one.
