Hi

Can anybody tell me what this plant is please. I saw it in a garden recently, but cannot recall the name.

I came on to say Actaea, but upon googling, I see it's the same thing! Grin

Brilliant. Thank you.

After unsuccessfully googling and using a plant ID app, I knew somebody here would know.

ake a photo upload it and boom.. proper identification No, not proper identification. All the plant apps are doing is the same as you are doing when flicking through pictures on google trying to find a match. Except without the basic understanding that what it is seeing is a flower rather than simply a pattern. And with no botanical understanding, so it can quite easily mistake a large bush for a ground-creeping succulent.

A plant app isn't going to count the bricks in the wall behind and work out how tall it is. All it will go on is the plant material it sees and hazard a guess. Usually wildly wrong.

Yeah, plantnet is great but often gives wildly differing possibilities. It also encourages people to confirm, even though they might be wrong.

Had it not occurred to you that I was simply recommending an App, I was not personally trying to identify a plant? I was commenting on your unwarranted sarcasm in response to sycamore. You're quite entitled to recommend an app, but must expect other people to point out the deficiencies of apps and their abilities to mislead those who are just beginning their quest for knowledge about plants.
