Is Green Johanna really any different to a black dalek compost bin?

As my title says really. We have a pallet compost bin, but it looks ugly, and we have a family of rats living in there. I looked at our council website to get a compost bin from them, and they do the green Johanna bins now. My dh doesn't and can't see how they are different to a dalek bin. The info we've read doesn't seem to show anything that makes it work better. Does anyone have any info on them that I can show him so we can decide which way to go? Many thanks.

(The area the bin will go in faces east, so a fair bit of sun until about 3pm ish, as it's next to a fence which blocks the sun there.)

Not sure about the rate of composting (but the green Johanna is meant to get hotter and compost faster- the walls feel thicker than my black one). The main benefit for me is that it's got a base so rats don't get in - they ran tunnels all through my black dalek one and saw it as a lovely feast opportunity! 5 months in and no rats in the GJ.
