Help identifying plant

Can anyone identify this please? It’s growing through a tree in our garden.

DH says bindweed but we had that in our previous garden and I know it has very distinctive heart shaped leaves.

Hoping someone with more gardening knowledge can help.

Oh dear, unlikely you can identify it without a picture, no matter how expert you are Grin

That's Virginia creeper. Beautiful in Autumn. Train it to go up a wall or fence.

Haggisfish · 21/08/2020 13:14

I think it’s a Virginia creeper. Rampant!

russian vine?

Issantagettingbusy · 21/08/2020 13:14

Kate Bush!!

It's absolutely stunning in Autumn. It dies back in winter but emerges beautifully in Spring, I should add.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you all! This will be our second autumn in the house and I remember now we had Virginia Creeper along that wall last year. I didn’t remember it growing through the tree.

It did look beautiful last year. Unfortunately DH proudly announced he’d ‘just ripped out a load of bindweed’ 🙄🙄🙄. The deed was done before I had a chance to stop him...

I suppose at least it’s rampant enough to grow back...

If the main root/s is/are still there, it'll come back. Did he pull up the roots?

TheVanguardSix · 21/08/2020 13:39

If he did, you can fish the main root out of the bin and stick it back in the soil with some decent compost.

Hmm... good point @TheVanguardSix. Thanks for mentioning this. I’ll go and look.
