Help please with filling some large gaps in borders

Hi, please can anyone suggest some shrubs or perennials that will fill a gap/s in my back garden. Something that has a decent spread and not too tall. Either side of the gap is a buddleja and very new peony . I did have some bedding plants in bit I think long term it would be better to fill it. Many thanks.

I've got a cornus alba red dogwood bush. Will definitely fill a gap and it has bright red stems in the winter when the leaves have all fallen off, so interesting most of the year.
