Flowers for shade

Hello, have a long narrow planter against the back of my house in a shingle area. The garden is north east facing so this is in constant shade. Currently a rambling rose grows from it up a trellis very (too) successfully. Everything else is just weeds, which I tend to leave everywhere else but a planter full of them feels a bit sad.

Any ideas what I could put in here? Trying to spruce up this area of the garden as it's near the kitchen and feels a bit grim currently.

Bedding plants or perennials?

Hostas maybe - and Periwinkles and real Geraniums?

I have a fuchsia that seems to do well in shade. I pulled it up from the top corner of the garden which is dry and fairly sunny it wasn't too healthy and threw it in a planter that gets the occasional bit of sun mid summer e.g an hour right around midday. It's thriving, I have completely neglected it except for when I moved it, half expecting it to die really. Even been a bit battered by the odd basketball or a cat jumping on it.

Ok thanks will have a look in the local gardening centre. Is this the right time of year to plant them?

I have hydrangeas, in pots, on a N facing wall. In the summer they get a bit of early sun, but otherwise they’re in shade all the time and they do ok - they really don’t like a lot of sun.
There are some amazing colours and shapes these days, not just the boring old pink mopheads, so well worth a look Smile

Have a look at Thompson & Morgan
