We've had this tree now for three years and it has grown and has started producing pears. But suddenly it has one whole branch of leaves has turned black..is it pear rust or something else? What should I do?
Thank you to anyone who can help.

My very old pear tree turned black last year, it is a fungus and there is no anti fungal spray that you can use because you will want to use eat the fruit.
We removed the affected fruit and leaves Making sure we had picked up any that had fallen, as far as we could and destroyed them.
The rest was up to hope.
This year, so far it’s better, there are a few black spots on the leaves, but it has put on new growth and the fruit looks ok. Ours does not harvest until the end of October, so some way to go yet.
We had decided that if the fungus comes back we will have to sadly, fell the tree.

@Beebumble2
Thank you for the post and advice. Hopefully yours will recover. Ours is very young still. It was expensive ..£40 from the garden centre. I don't think they'll refund as it's a few years old now. It's sad as it was the first tree we planted in our garden. Hope the rest don't go the same way.

@Rubychard.. Thanks for the post. Yes that's what I reckon now. I've removed the black leaves and fed with Uncle Tom's plant tonic as recommended on our local gardening show.
