Sweet pea issues

Just got back from holiday and my sweet peas are infested with white fly, aphids and little spiders. A few were looking dead before I went but thought it was just damage I had done when picking flowers (kids had been yanking the flowers off). I sprayed with bug spray but is it a lost cause? Better to leave it chop it down immediately?

They don't go on for ever.

I expect the "little spiders" were predators rather than plant eaters, but you'll have killed those off with the bug spray.

Make sure they're well watered in this hot weather, cut off and dead foliage just for aesthetics (but remember you can have health leaves and flowers at the top of an apparently dead stem, so go carefully) and see what happens. If they're not bringing you joy you might as well get rid.

Thanks. They have brought me a lot of joy this year and bunches and bunches of flowers so if they are just dying naturally then so be it.

They do seem to ‘go off’ about now. As they are annuals 3 months of flowering is about all they manage. The flowers get shorter stems and the lower leaves do go brown. Picking the flowers regularly, taking off any emerging seed pods and removing the tendrils is about all you can do until it’s sad to say goodbye.
I’ve comforted myself by buying next years seeds!

That's a good idea. Might start looking at next years seeds.

I was late sowing my sweet peas, so mine have only just started flowering a week or so ago.
So, it seems to me that it would be a good idea to start some off at different times.
