Tree or weed

Sorry, plant app isn’t helping. We have a self seeded birch and a hawthorn so there’s a chance it’s a tree. It looks rather fast growing though, so maybe not. Any idea? It’s about chest height.

Looks like an Ash sapling. It will grow very quickly.

That's an ash and they do get big. I'd dig it out. In future try and pull out any tiny saplings whilst they're only an inch or two high as you can easily pull them out with your hand.

Ash. You can clinch it by seeing whether the buds are black - it's one of the easiest to recognise from its twigs in winter.
