Triffid like cactus flower?

I've just noticed this triffid like thing growing out a cactus. It must have grown over the last 2 days. It had small brown fluffy bits last year and has sprouted some pups at the bottom but this thing is massive.

It looks like a bud at the tip but was difficult to photograph 😬. It's really strange looking and has grown so quickly.

Exciting! I think you're going to have a flower! And you might have to stay up all night to see it! Have a look at this website which has some beautiful photos/time lapse of cacti that look similar yours echinopsisfreak.com/
disclaimer - I have no expert knowledge of cacti but I am interested!

It’s Echinopsis subdenudata, and that is a flower bud developing. It should flower in about a week, probably opening at night ( many of these plants are nocturnal), and only last one day usually. It may also be pleasantly scented! You’ll have to watch it carefully, and will see the white petals develop just before it flowers.

The whole thing is a bud, not just the bit at the tip - the flower can easily be 6 inches long and 6 inches wide.

Wow! That’s quite amazing! And a bit weird tbh......

Congratulations!

And a bit weird tbh...... But very beautiful when you see them in the flesh - silk-like petals, a mass of fine stamens from the throat like beautifully brushed long hair, and another ring of stamens from half way up the tube combining neatness of form with delicacy.
