What's wrong with my lavender?

I planted 2 lavender plants last year, they looked lovely but this year they have grown back and are just a dull green colour all over. What is causing this?
Will they ever come back a nice green and purple? Is there something I can do to help?

Looks like some sort of disease. Can you dig them up and have a look at the roots. If they’re in pots, maybe too little moisture, but again look at the roots for vine weevil.

They are French lavender and aren't really totally happy in the UK winters, so it probably suffered a bit and hasn't really recovered.

Are all those flower heads new growth this year?

Beebumble2 - I don't think it's vine weevles. I can't see any when I dig in the soil and the plant is growing well enough, not wilting at all so I don't think the roots are damaged.

Verypeckish - yes it's all new growth this year

My French lavender looks the same, I have found they just don't do well in some UK climates (I'm in NW England and French lavender doesn't seem to like the rain and the colder winter temperatures). I'm going to replace it with English lavender

In that case, give them a good feed of tomato fertiliser once a week for the next month.

Thanks. I gave them some tomato feed yesterday and will continue to do so weekly. Fingers crossed!
