What can I do with my garden?

At present, it is brambls and weed. Obviously need to get rid of that somehow.

But, it is not safe for the dc, as it is the same height as the first floor. It has steps up to it, but they are steep.

The garden is slopping towards the house ifswim.

We want it to be easy to look after, as we only hope to use if for bbq's etc.

What is best? PS: I'm not a gardener!!

get a strimmer and cut the lot down

strim it back and cover with black plastic for the winter. That should kill most of the weeds. Is it terraced? or sloping?

It's sloping, want to try to flatten it down, but it's going to be costly.

Plastic sounds like the best thing until summer, will that stop the brambles growing though? (hope so)

TBH it sounds like it could do with some terracing but that would be expensive.

levelling a bit needn neccessarily be too expensive - are you any good at DIY?

and if theres a steep drop next to the house, you may need some fencing of some sort - how old are the dc?

an attractive low maintenece garden would add value to the property, which might help you swallow the cost a bit?

yes, covering with black plastic would kill all the weeds and brambles - but not sure how long you have to leave it... maybe even through spring... you could cover it and put astroturf down from asgoodasgrass.co.uk, paint any walls white and put some brightly painted pots, table, chairs etc - would be maintenance low, mess low, and bright and chirpy in the winter??
