My mum gave me a cutting of this today. She's had the plant for over 50 years - bought it on her honeymoon in a big conch shell as you did in the 60s. Any idea what it is? It trails on slightly chunky stems.

I think it might be a trailing variety of peperomia or pilea.

Is it an indoor plant that goes outside in the summer?

I googled peperomia and pilea and it doesn't look like any of them. My mum always kept it indoors - on the bathroom windowsill for years and then in the porch the last 5 years or so. The bathroom window wasn't particularly sunny.

It looks like Plectranthus fruticosus, Aka the Spurflower. It’s in the Lamiacea family, related to Coleus, and will produce spikes of purple flowers on the ends of the stems.
