Parasol leaning / blowing over

We have a lovely new parasol - 3.5m wide with LED lighting so we can see on those balmy [British?] evenings with a G&T in hand.

Bought 4x heavy weights that fit on to the legs. Even in a light breeze this evening, the whole thing leaned over and would have fallen if we hadn't been there watching it!

It's a lovely sunny evening with a very light breeze, so what do you do to stop it leaning? It has a vent in the top, which is supposed to stop this happening, but seems it's ineffective.

Any ideas?

We have one, the base has 4 parts that you put together, each part has 20kg of sand , plus water to hold it down. It’s v heavy so you wouldn’t want it to tip. The base came with the parasol. A friend has the base of hers securely screwed onto a concrete block with wheels underneath.

Attach guy ropes somehow maybe - that's probably a last resort.

Your base isn’t heavy or wide enough, it’s the wrong base, you need something heavy and wide, like this.

Yes. I solved this by buying a cheap outdoor side table from B&q. Got dh to cut a hole in it and have put the parasol through this. Along with the base it steadies it enough. I didn’t want a big dining type table but this was perfect.

We had to weigh ours down with extra bags of compost in the end, on top of the original weights. Nothing else was working and it was the very opposite of relaxing to sit under the parasol wondering when it would topple!
