How to Stop the Wee Beasties?!

My sunflower and tomato plants are being nibbled by something! There seem to be clusters of black dots (eggs?) under the stems. How can I get rid of them?

My French Beans have been devoured by snails, so really keen to keep my toms and she flowers going so that my first foray into gardening isn't a complete bust!

I suspect the black dots are aphids. All sorts of things nibble the leaves, have a look under the leaves for caterpillars. Spray the aphids with a dilute mixture of washing up liquid and water.
I start my beans off in pots and when I transplant them I make deep collars of plastic bottles to protect them until they’ve grown.
Don’t worry we all have disasters.
