What is this white-barked tree?

The bark underneath is this incredible red brown colour. But what is the tree? Birch? Aspen? Something else?

Silver birch.

Yes, it's a birch tree. My mum had a lovely silver birch in her garden. Beautiful to hear the wind go through it.

Thanks all! But when I google silver birch, none of them look like this. Is it a special specimen? Why so dark underneath? Will it turn white as the bark comes to the outside?

There are other sorts of ornamental birch, will see if I can look them up. Should turn white underneath over time I think.

Chinese red-barked birch?

Definitely looks like Himalayan birch to me. Interestingly their bark which peels off in large pieces was used for ancient Sanskrit writing.

If you look up 'painting of birch tree' they will look more like this with clear black/white patches.
