Please? Each frond is 1-2" long.

Gone mad this year, needs control! 😊

What is this lawn weed?

I think it's yarrow achillea millerformia or similar!

How do I kill it without destroying my lawn, now?

Achillea millefolium. Personally, I'd prefer the yarrow to the lawn, so I'll leave it to someone else to tell you how to kill it.

I'd also be inclined to let it be. If you're mowing the lawn regularly, it won't flower and in the meantime it will be keeping it looking green and suitable for walking and lounging on.

Failing that, there are selective lawn weedkillers on the market, but they'll leave you with ugly brown patches, hence my inclination to live with it.

bluefoxmug · 08/07/2020 13:18

I would leave it in.
it's green and not spiky therefore allowed to stay.

I would spray that with weedkiller and be prepared to reseed the lawn, although I expect the grass will recover once the yarrow competitor is gone. Grass is very resilient and will bounce back most of the time.

I' m definitely with bluefox. It's growing there because on that bit of the garden, yarrow (or whatever it is) grows better than grass. Much nicer than a dead brown patch and poison!

Miljea · 09/07/2020 11:18

Nah, it's going to have to go. My lawn is 8m x 3.5m and struggles at the best of times, as it's not very even (filled in garden beds, prior to us, with the inevitable subsidence), brownish patches and now with two 1m across patches of yarrow.

It's a mess.

I hand weed the daisies, and the 30 odd individual purple viola that have self seeded across the lawn, plus the baby alchemilla mollis and so on! But two 1m patches of yarrow are too much.

If you let it all grow you'll have a wildflower meadow. That's exactly what I've paid a fortune to plant in ours!! Grin

If the grass struggles, why keep fighting?
What do you use the lawn for?
A patch full of yarrow, daisies and viola sounds lovely to me.
