Google says it's neither. Any other candidates?

Lovely plant, no idea though, but could you use one of the plant identification apps? (Please tell if you find out Smile)

do the leaves smell of anything when crushed?

Gatekeeper · 27/06/2020 11:08

looks mustardy

Destroyedpeople · 27/06/2020 11:24

Yes I found the app but couldn't download it for some reason...
OK I planted cardomum, allspice ( there are different varieties if that just to add confusion) and caraway. And star anise.

My app is saying wood avons but I think you need some better pics to be sure! A few whole leaves sharp and in focus in frame. Has it bloomed at all?

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/06/2020 12:16

I was just coming on to say it looks like Geum urbanum, Wood avens. Texture of leaves, vein pattern. Leaflets look a little small though. If it is wood avens, it will have small yellow flowers with the sepals showing between the petals, followed by seedheads covered with hooks.

Destroyedpeople · 27/06/2020 12:29

Yes my photography skills are poor
..no flowers yet. .
Here's a better pic I hope. ...

Looks mustardy to me too.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/07/2020 14:07

No, not wood avens. Don't know what it is, though.

Destroyedpeople · 01/07/2020 14:20

I am sure I didn't plant mustard. . ..thanks all tho...
Here is where it is about to flower..

Hey, you're moving goal posts! That's a different plant! You've got the plant with the rounded leaves which is what we've all been looking at, and this one with oval leaves in opposite pairs.

I'm going back to wood avens for the rounded leaves - I've been weeding a lot of it today, and it can grow a lot larger than I thought before getting the lobed leaves.

This one looks quite a bit like Enchanter's nightshade (willowherb.evening primrose family, not nightshade family). You didn't plant your herbs in soil that you dug from a shady part of your garden, did you?

Destroyedpeople · 01/07/2020 22:17

Hmm I am confused too..it was definitely only one plant but it has different shaped leaves.....
Good point about soil provenance though. ...

That can't be one plant with both leaf shapes - look very closely at the soil level, my guess would be two seeds germinated right next to one another. It can be very hard to pinpoint which is which - happens in my garden all the time, usually with a weed coming up through the roots of a lovely plant, making it hard to weed out.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/07/2020 23:20

You can see both types of leaves in the earlier photos. Are you sure they're the same plant?
The grouping of the leaves doesn't look much like wood avens to me tbh.
