garden pic attached

My usual gardener is 65+ so isnt working because of covid which is ok.

I was looking for a replacement and saw prices starting from £70 and £100-200 just to cut the grass.

My usual gardener charges £15/20 max

Not sure if these prices are reasonable. Plus they would be using my lawn mower

I know I'll have to get it done again in 2 weeks if it keeps raining....

How much would you pay max for a gardener to mow the lawn?

Depends on how big your lawn is.. Gardeners around here charge a minimum of £25 an hour

Mine is 2 blokes for an hour, for £40. They cut lawn and do whatever jobs need doing. I leave them to it. They work solidly.

I pay my gardener £15 ph but I mow my own lawn because it's such an easy job and I would rather he was spending the time I pay for doing the tougher jobs. is your lawn so huge it takes 4.5 hours to mow?

130 as a day rate here

£25 per hour (London) just for basic labour.

Designing or landscaping then I would expect it to be more.

Depends on what they do! I wouldn't pay as much for a grass cutter as for a plant carer. Mine does the latter and comes once a month for £130.

I had some help a few years ago which they charge £10 an hour. Last year we paid one of DD uni friends ( who we know quite well as she lives in the same county as us) £15 to help weed and she and DH built a rockery so some hard work. She worked very hard for three days ( sometimes in the rain) and I took her to help me chose some plants which was light relief and she said I shouldn’t pay her for that time but we did. She is studying on line and hopes in the future to be a garden designer.
We live in the north and I have seen individuals charge as low as £10 an hour but I believe some of the company’s charge £20 an hour.

The rockery looks amazing this year.

£25 per person per hour. I think I pay about £20 a week for my lawn to be mowed (it's quite big though). All the furniture is moved and rearranged nicely and any fallen sticks, plants in the way etc are cleared (this only minimal though.)

Do you have any teenagers in your neighbourhood that are looking to earn a few extra quid? We have a friend's son cut our grass for £10 an hour. Before we had a "gardener" (self-proclaimed) do the same job for £20/h. He could never be bothered to put on after-cut and used to throw whole conifer clippings onto the compost heap. I also had to make him endless cups of tea...
