Potted plants with unsightly stalks on top

I know nothing about gardening and have probably spent more time in my garden during lockdown than in the whole 7 years that I've lived here.

In April I bought these 2 plants in Asda and they were so beautiful throughout May - definitely growing and leads of flowers. However, lately they look like this - not great. Are they dying? They seem to have lots of new buds coming through but all at the bottom beneath these stalks. I suppose the leaves don't look great either I've been removing dead flowers.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I don't even know what they areBlush

Yes, Senetti - you can cut old top growth down and it should grow back with a fresh flush of flowers.
