What's up with my Bay tree?

Bay tree in a pot on the porch - looked lovely and healthy until two days ago when the new leaves all curled up.

I don't think it's Bay sucker because there's no discolouration, I don't think it's thirst because I watered as soon as the curl appeared, and again yesterday when the curl had not corrected.

Any ideas?

Are there ants in the pot?

I don't know - what would they do?

They really upset the root system, and the plant wilts. It’s easy to see if you have, just lift the pot.

I see - I lifted the pot and there is no evidence of ants. Hmm.
