Garden redesign

I have a corner plot with a wraparound garden plot. The people I bought from were keen gardeners and I am definitely not. It's all split levels and wasted space at the moment. I plan on levelling it off in sept - at the moment lots of stumps, uneven lawn and split level areas. I want it to be easy to maintain....

Aside from that I've no real idea where to start

That's not so messy!

What do you want to use your garden for and at what time of day? I'm guessing playing football and eating out for a start. What kind of garden style do you want? Architectural and formal, a food garden, a fragrant garden, a cottage garden, tropical, low maintenance, a mixture? It's best to start by drawing a plan and marking where the sun/shade is at different times of day.

Thanks - the sun starts on either end of the L's - so the goal area and up by the guinea pig house and ends in the corne near the hammock

I want it to be neat and easy, useable space but I really know nothing about plants and gardens at all and can't visualise what would work best. House wise I always know how I see I space but I can't get my head around the outside....

Is the gravelly looking bit next to the goal for parking? Or an ugly "design feature"?

Do you want it to stay open plan or are you happy to divide it up a bit into different zones? Could you draw a sketch plan?

Other than low maintenance is there a style of garden you like? If you look at the Crocus website, they have "inspiration" pages eg Mediterranean, cottage, tropical, modern, Zen etc.

The gravel is where previous used to have a garage and park a trailer. We don't use at all. Same with small area behind the fence at the goal....I want zones. Area for tub. Have corner sofa in the garage as there is no level space for it - think that should go in corner with last sun... area for dinner table
