Plant ID please? I thought the millions of these plants that have sprung up in my garden were Ornamental poppies I planted. But now I’ve realised they are also in my veg patch and I didn’t plant any flowers there. Any ideas please?

Poppy! Have you had them last year? Seeds will have migrated.

I've got loads in my veg patch and poking through the gravel on the driveway. They're rife this year.

Of course I forgot that the seeds can lie dormant! That explains them popping up anywhere OP.

Thank you everyone! Will have a very poppy-filled garden this year

Poppy, Big deep purple, almost black ones. And they can grown to well over a metre tall. Their roots aren't very big though so they shouldn't cause any problem.

They can lie dormant for years and will reappear when you disturb the soil.

I get poppies if I dig over a bed - mine are raspberry coloured and double/frilly. I don't think I've got any coming up this year but I have a photo from last year.
Definitely not 'something bad'!Grin
