Lawn aeration shoes!

Bought these online, assembled and attempted to walk on the lawn yesterday.
Bad move!!!!
Is there a technique or secret to doing this at all?
The only way I can describe it was to imagine when you were a child and you would wear wellies and your feet get stuck fast in mud!!!!
Or I manage a few steps and then the straps become loose?
Very big lawn, sparse in places and needs a good reseed, anyone used these before??!!

Bought them, tried them, chucked them.

I suspect your lawn is far too dry right now for them to be any good so they are impossible to get going in if your lawn looks anything like mine does.

However sadly after the purchase I found the spikes don't really go far enough to properly aerate a miserable lawn so they are basically pointless.

Paid a lawn company to renovate my lawn - worth every penny. What they made me realise walking about with those shoes was laughable in comparison.

Aha!!! Thankyou!!
When I explained to DP how difficult I found it, he replied that my technique was probably wrong, and the foot position would be similar to wearing skis????
As he went skiing once during sixth form 25 years ago he is clearly an expert..... I'll watch with a wine on the patio before chucking them in the bin 😂

Ah, everyone's a critic aren't they Grin

Seriously, a lawn company. Can't believe how much time and effort I wasted on my lawn before calling in the experts.

I went around the lawn in a pair with 3" spikes about a month ago. It's a bit like hard work! I settled into crabwise: put both foot down next to each other, step lead foot one-and-a-half shoe widths sideways, then following with the other foot butted up to the leading foot. Repeat this crab step all the way along.

But it's too dry now, here. There's no point as the earth is more like packed dust. I'm somewhat of the opinion that it's pointless anyway, tbh.

They're a useless gimmick really. The spikes aren't long enough to do do any good, and as you've discovered, they don't stay on!

Thank you all!! Ahh you live and learn, why oh why didn't I ask on here before getting them!

I was using sturdy hiking boots for my crabwalk and didn't have any straps loosening. I imagine that using wellies or soft shoes they would work free.
