Could anyone identify this geranium for me please?

It grows in a clump to about 20-30cm high, flowers prolifically from now until maybe September. I would like to buy more! The flower is very pale pink with darker pink veins, and the foliage is topped with white.

It’s difficult to be precise, there are so many varieties. My Wisley Hardy Geranium book has over 70 and it’s an old book.
The leaves look like the Macrorrhizum Variegatum variety. The nearest flower match that I could find was one called ‘Joy’ which also has variegated leaves.
Lovely if it was that.

Thank you! I’ve googled it and mine does indeed seem to be that. I would like to buy more as it stays low, forms a good size clump quite quickly but doesn’t take over at all.

That's lovely! I might buy one too. Thank you for that

WellTidy · 30/05/2020 15:23

You’re welcome! It’s lovely, as it looks delicate, but it is such a prolific and long flowering geranium.

As someone else put it on another gardening thread, could you "get all Carol Klein" on it and divide it to make new plants? My geranium macrorrhizum spreads so quickly that it's easy to take chunks off it.

peajotter · 30/05/2020 20:07

Yes, divide it. I have loads of geraniums and even tiny bits have grown into new plants really quickly. Which is amazing given my level of neglect.

Crainsbill geraniums are wonderful plants, it’s so exciting that they seem to be having a revival. There are some beautiful scented varieties and little delicate rockery ones. I love them.

I have lots Bee. I really love them. The ‘Jill’ series starts small and are very pretty. I also have one called ‘ballerina’ and another called ‘Elke’ and loads of others. I have a long strip on the side of the patio where they are just perfect. I’ve seen them described as old fashioned, which is a shame.

Not ‘Jill’. That should be ‘Jewel’.

I’ve got Elke as well. Cappuccino is a lovely little one with bronze leaves and pink flowers. I moved it last year and it’s now sulking!

WellTidy · 31/05/2020 21:13

I will look out for it!

That’s really pretty. Glad you got a definite identification.

It's a cracking plant. Flowers and flowers all summer. No fuss and sets off it's neighbours beautifully
