Creeping phlox etc

Advice please. We have a large area of border in rock that looks unsightly. We sent a video to a local gardener and he recommends creeping plod and aubretia. I have had good advice on here before. Could we seed this area or would I need to buy plants (we could ask him again but don't like to burden him too much and would rather buy plants from him but it's such a large area it could be very expensive)

I wouldn't grow it from seed. It is better to get plug plants so you can build from them.
