Growing in a patch where we think the previous owners had fruit bushes (they removed 3 things) tiny white flowers that dont do much. Thorns on the stems.

Raspberry?

I think you could be right. The flowers look the same. I’ve just chopped them right back though as they looked wild and were blocking some shrubs behind them.

I think they are rasps too. They can grow massive, ours grow to about six feet annually and we get lots of fruit.

If you want them somewhere else and still have the sticks you cut off earlier you stick one end of each in the ground wherever you want them and water it they may well grow.

Will they still fruit this year if I’ve chopped them down? Dh & the kids love raspberries.

There is an app called ‘Picture This’ which helps you to identify plants and is quite helpful. It helped me to identify some fruit trees and other plants in my garden.

They will probably grow back, but might not fruit this year. You can keep them but remove the lower leaves if you want to get sun to your lower plants.

If you don’t want them there then dig them out in the autumn. They move easily and resprout from any root left in the ground in my garden at least.

Raspberries are pretty recognisable because they have light coloured underneaths to the leaves.

Comefromaway · 25/05/2020 13:09

I’ve just checked. The leaves are light underneath.

This is what is left after my “pruning”

The big gaps at the front are where the previous owners removed two bushes of something.
