This has just started sprouting in the garden..... I don't want to dig it up when I'm weeding if it turns out to be something I'd like!! Grin anyone know what it is?
It's the little plant in the middle of the photo with the purple stems.

Please can someone ID this plant?

It looks like garden mint, rub your fingers on the leaves it will smell nice if it's mint.

It looks a bit like Swiss Chard though I'm sure that wouldn't randomly start sprouting. Am curious to know.

Ilovemypyjamas · 24/05/2020 19:06

Right, went out and did the leaves test. It has no smell at all!

Download plant net on your mobile then you can take a photo of it and it IDs it.

Ilovemypyjamas · 24/05/2020 19:29

Okay plant net suggested blueberry, honeysuckle or dogwood. Pretty sure it is none of these. It's growing from what looks like a sort of tuber? Thick brown roots with multiple shoots. I might have to go out and dig it up to find out what it is!!!

It looks like a wild bilberry plant to me

The stalk looks like a brassica of some sort to me - like a decorative cabbage. The leaves are sprout like.

It's growing from what looks like a sort of tuber? In that case, it's unlikely to be a spreader. You'd be safe to let it grow for a bit longer until it reveals more of itself. With those gorgeous purple stems, I'd certainly be keeping it.

Could it be a dahlia?

Ilovemypyjamas · 25/05/2020 10:55

@MereDintofPandiculation that's what I was thinking - it looks interesting!! I will see what happens.... Grin

It's not a dahlia, nor any of the other suggestions. I agree with the wait and see approach!
