Hello!
Ive planted cabbages and broccoli that arrived as little plants. We put a few bags of mcompost and horse compost on the soil and dug around a bit.

But the edges of leaves are turning yellow. Anyone able to diagnose what Im doing wrong!?

I would say lack of water when they were travelling and transplanted.

You might need to read up on protecting brassicas from cabbage white butterfly and other pests that lay eggs in broccoli and cabbage. You might need to net them as pigeons also like pecking at the young plants.

I once had an amazing crop of broccoli, until I cooked it and all the unwanted protein wriggled out!

Ooh thankyou. So hopefully will be okay once they're happily in.

I didn't realise it was more than just plant and water... Blush. I am a very novice gardener. We have a pretty rose thats thrived here and an apple tree! And ive planted lettuce and beans.

I did literally click on things that looked fun... hopefully some of it will grow!

I will definitely check for bugs!

I think I even have some net on a roll randomly. Do i put some sticks in and make it go across higher than I think they will go?

Those new leaves look pretty healthy to me. You will always have old leaves coming to the end of their life and I think that's all that's happening, I certainly wouldn't be in the slightest bit worried.

I gave up with the brassicas after the infestations. I’d google how to cover them to stop the butterflies etc. The RHS and Gardeners World ( Monty Don ) will give the best advice.

I don't have too much trouble with bugs. I do have trouble with wood pigeons, so I cover them or put sticks round them until they're about 30cm tall. If I remember I keep an eye out for butterfly eggs on the underside of the leaves and squish them.
