My red jasmine has no scent

I have a lovely red jasmine climbing a trellis. It attracts lots of bees and butterflies, so all good. However, it has no scent whatsoever! Is this a thing?!

Are you sure it's jasmine?

Mine is the same (jasminum beesianum). It has no scent at all.

Mine has flowered the best it ever has this year but still no discernible scent. I think it’s a different type to the scented ones

Weird because BBC Gardeners World says it's scented.

RHS agrees.

Could be wrong soil?

Jasminum beesianum doesn't have such a strong fragrance as other jasmines. As a general rule, the most strongly fragranced flowers tend to be white flowers that are pollinated by nocturnal pollinators eg moths and use scent rather than colour to attract their pollinators. Also, fragrance is released at different times of day by different plants depending on what the pollinator is.
