I have a wooden bench but I don’t know If I need a stain, or varnish or.....

It has grey areas now as well as some of the varnish/colour it was when it came? What do I need to get it looking back to original look?

Don’t use varnish, it will make a nice coat but then peel off. You can use use protective wood stain, but supposedly the fence stuff might rub off on your clothes, I’ve never worried about that. Or for a more natural look and more eco friendly use teak oil or linseed. Rub it down a couple of times a year.

Rub it down, paint with exterior woodstain the shade you want, and clear varnish to finish if you want it shiny. We changed the colour of ours a couple of years ago, its fading again, so we'll give it a quick rub down and restain it.

We bought Cuprinol furniture restorer to bring our weathered bench back to life. It's like a glue gel you paint on then scrub off which takes al the top layer of grey off. Then we stained ours a different colour.
