I have a large wooden planter, with trellis, that I want to grow clematis or other climber.

What is the most cost effective way to line the planter, could I use old clothes??

So is the bit where the compost is going to go made of trellis? Yes you could use old clothes although they may rot in time.

Trellis is attached to the back of the planter..good point on rotting over time!

I lined some wooden planters with empty compost bags - turned inside out so only black showed

Why do you want to line it? If you're lining it to protect the wood from rotting, you'll need something waterproof.
