Has anyone braved this and if so how long were the cues to get in? I stupidly thought I'd pop along to B&Q the other day for some paint and the cue was so long I think you'd be waiting about an hour and a half so I went home didn't want it that much Grin but I'd love to go grab some new plants but just can't face cuing hours to get in, anyone been yet and what was it like? X

Find a plant nursery near you instead, the queues aren't half so bad. One of my local dedicated garden centres had a queue but it was well managed and went quickly. The nursery I went to I just walked straight in.

Getting into places like Homebase, b and q etc is a nightmare so if it's just plant things you want, go elsewhere

Yeah true I'll try local smaller ones thank you x

The garden centre near me did have queues on opening weekend but it was all well managed and moved quickly.

I went to my local garden centre today. No queue. Not too many folk inside. It was nice and felt almost normal. I also feel it's better, if you can, to support local places rather than large chains which likely find it easier to survive.

Our local one said on FB that please could people visit during the week if possible, rather than all come at the weekend.

Went to a local garden centre and only queued for about 5-10 mins and it was lovely and quiet inside :)

Parkandride · 19/05/2020 19:10

Went to a plant nursery, busier than usual but no queues. I wouldnt fancy a dobbies or where ever on bank holiday weekend...

Ilikewinter · 19/05/2020 19:14

Ive been to a plant nursery and a garden centre, walked straight in both..plus Wickes amd Homebase with no queue either. Im giving B&Q a massive wide berth though!

sarahc336 · 19/05/2020 19:56

Thanks guys, decided to try a local one, as someone said it's good to support smaller businesses and yeah I'm defo staying away from B&Q now after i saw the cue the other day Grin

I need gas for the bbq - can anyone think of alternative smaller type places I can try to
Google to find nearby??? I know lots of local / independent places to go to for DIY / paint / plants etc but I'm flummoxed here..

DominaShantotto · 19/05/2020 20:10

They've all done their B+Q tip now and are in a 5 hour queue for the council tip around here.

sarahc336 · 20/05/2020 06:16

Our b&q was still queueing for days yesterday. Luckily I'd done click and collect. No queue for that. In and out. Bish. Bash. Bosh.

CallmeAngelina · 20/05/2020 09:09

I ended up visiting 4 places for bedding plants yesterday. The first 3 (2 nurseries and a large chain garden centre) had virtually nothing. The garden centre had a very small queue and an organised system inside (but only had some puny looking geraniums left.
I finally drove to my go-to farm nursery with its scruffy poly-tunnels and it was as if Covid had never happened! Got hanging baskets, trays of bedding plants, pots and all-sorts.
I told the mice man it was the highlight of my lockdown!

Angel2702 · 20/05/2020 09:16

Our Local garden centre has been quiet during the day apparently. B&q still horrendous queues.

Oldraver · 21/05/2020 20:37

@FusionChefGeoff have a look at builders merchants, tool hire places
