What is this weed?

It's growing like mad, but the only one we have. Does anyone know what it is, and is it likely to spread?

It’s a plantain, there’s two types that are considered weeds. The other one has broader leaves and shorter flower spikes.
They have long roots.

It will spread like mad. If you can’t dig it up then remove the flower heads.

Give it a good soak before digging out to soften the ground. The seeds blow in on the wind. I’ve several in the drive gravel.

Ribwort plantain, Plantago lanceolata, a UK wildflower. A close relative. Plantago coronopus, is sold as a salad herb under the name minutina or erba stella.

Wonder how it got there?! Probably by seed.
