I will be the first to admit I am not great at keeping plants alive.

I got this 2 summers ago in a small pot and it has come on amazingly.

My friend would like one for her garden but I cannot remember the name of it.

Can anyone ID it for me please?

Is it phlox?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2020 16:21

It's not phlox - I think it's this:

How many petals does it have? I had thought it was a crucifer (cabbage family) because of the shape of the developing seed pods, but they have 4 petals, and I can't quite make out from the photo whether it has 4 petals or 5 petals.

If 4 petals, try Dames violet, Hesperis matronalis. It's not Honesty, because that has round leaves.

Wallflower. Erysimum Bowles Mauve

It's a wallflower.

Quite easy to grow too - I have an awkward 20cm strip around edge of my garden which is now full of them. I collect seeds in autumn and then scatter in gaps and bare patches elsewhere along the edge of garden. Those from seeds sown last autumn should be ready to flower next Spring.

It's a wallflower.

It’s definitely Erisymum mauve Bowles. I have lots of it and it does so well for me. It’s a perennial, mine flowers all year round. Does better in sun but absolutely fine in part shade. I find that it goes a bit leggy so it doesn’t last forever. But I have it in many of my beds because it flowers so well and really brightens things up all year round.

Thanks all!!

I'll get a close up of the flowers tomorrow.

In the meantime, I'm off to google the names that have been suggested Smile
