What can I do with these stones?

My front garden has a small flower bed (about 2mX1m) that has been covered over with old decorative stones/gravel. It looks like a neglected waste of space and the stones are always getting kicked into the grass which makes mowing a nightmare. I want to remove the stones and plant the bed up properly but I’ve no idea what to do with the stones.

Any ideas? If I dig out the bed can I put the stones under it for drainage and then cover with soil? They aren’t pretty stones so I don’t want to use them for any other decorative purposes.

Bag them up and leave out with a note saying “free stones”. Or put a post on your local Facebook page. Someone will want them (once lockdown is eased of course)

if they are gravel size stones you can definitely bury them for draining the bed.

Others will also take them as peajotter says.

It kind of depends what you want to plant there. Some plants will absolutely love the extra drainage.

Also what your soil is like. If it's heavy and clay then burying the pebbles will help. If it's light and sandy then better to go with the give away.

Thanks both. I haven’t even dug into the soil yet as there is a membrane under the stones. I was thinking of roses and lavender and hadn’t really thought beyond that yet.
