What's this tree please?

I thought I knew a lot of plants and trees but this one must have escaped me.
It's a tree that's about 5 metres tall and is in flower now. It's planted in a little woodland area at the end of our estate path.
It's not a flowering cherry, dog rose or fruit tree.
It's really pretty.
Please help!

Is it a wild pear tree? Leaves and clusters look similar

Beekeeper1 · 03/05/2020 08:59

Not too confident, but could be Snowdrop Tree, also known as Silverbells (Halesia carolina). The leaves look right, although the flowers don't, and, if it is as tall as your estimate, it is a big specimen!

Not 100% sure on this one🤔

@Minnie888
Ooh - that was quick! I have just googled that but these flowers seem fuller without the stamens being so obvious?

@Beekeeper1
Thanks for that - but no, the flowers don't look quite right!

I have continued to Google and I think it may be this?

I have never noticed any apples on it in autumn though.... Confused

@Beekeeper1 You were very close if it is!!!

There is an app called 'leaf snap' that is quite good at identifying plants.

SpyApp · 03/05/2020 09:13

My first thought was apple.

redwoodmazza · 03/05/2020 09:15

@Lemonhoney Thanks for that. I'll have a look at it. Smile

My plant app says it's a Malus Sylvestris, or European crab apple. The photo looks right to me, but it does get it wrong sometimes.

Baaaahhhhh · 03/05/2020 09:40

I was going to say Crab Apple too.

redwoodmazza · 03/05/2020 09:45

Thanks again all. It certainly seems to fit the bill!
I will have to keep my eyes open in autumn to spot the fruit.
If only I was taller I could take a better photo!!!

Managed to get 2 more photos - if anyone is still interested!!! Smile
