Can some help me identify this please. I’m having an issue getting rid of it. It seems to grow long roots which it then branches new shoots off (like Ivy) so as soon as I dig up some it comes back and the roots are all in the stone walls.
Thank you

That's a good photo!

Alas, I don't know. Is it flowering?

Postmanbear · 25/04/2020 16:31

No flowers but the root when you dig it up is pink.

Is it Japanese anemone? Leaves don’t look quite right but it is a bugger to get rid of

I googled plant experts a few years back and was able to contact one by email. Might be more help for you...

Can you take a pic in situ? Might be easier to identify.

Hollyhock?

InfiniteSheldon · 25/04/2020 16:52

I think that's Holly hock not a weed at all

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/04/2020 16:55

If its root is long like a carrot, it’s holly hock.

Holly hocks don’t usually have roots vertically in stone walls though...

Try a plant ID app. You can take a photo of the plant and the app will compare it to a database of plants.

Thank you for your responses. I don’t think it’s hollyhock as it never flowers and only grows a couple of leaves off a long stem in random places. It could be something deliberately planted though as the garden we inherited was full of wild flowers and bulbs and it’s been so hard to tell what’s what.
This ‘weed’ has moved into a new patch that we have recently dug over which makes me think it’s a weed. I’ll try an app.
