What can I do with this messy area?

It's right outside patio doors but very shady and next to a huge hedge. I had thought a pretty tree or something climbing up the fence and maybe a small pond water feature

Recommendations.

A zen garden maybe? You could have a small or bonsai tree, a small water feature etc. Though the gravel might be attractive to passing cats.

I’d look for some plants with scent, perhaps a honey suckle or climbing rose for the fence, some grow in shade. The zen garden is a nice idea, perhaps use larger pebbles to deter the cats.

Thanks

I think I'll try and get something that will, limb up the fence and maybe try a small, pond or water feature

How about a tiny Japanese space? Lantern, smooth stones rather than gravel and an acer.

I would go a bit jungly! A hosta, fatsia etc. There was a great section on GW last night with a man who had the most amazing garden outside some patio doors. Might be a good watch for some inspiration.

Great suggestions thanks I will watch GW!

Do you think a small pond and some clematis against the fence is a good idea? We don't use the patio doors so it's more of a window
