Any supermarkets with vegetable seedlings?

I realise they aren't essential, and could order seeds online, but wondered if anyone has seen vegetable seedlings for sale anywhere? Ideally a supermarket so I can get some with my next shop.

My local morrisons had loads of vegetable seeds - 4 packs for £5

Moonlite · 22/04/2020 20:21

Lidl has loads

Elouera · 22/04/2020 20:49

@Moonlite- thanks. Any idea what vegetables they were?

My local Aldi had Peas earlier in the week

SunshineCake · 23/04/2020 07:15

Asda had a few, spinach is the one I remember. Also, you'll be lucky on line as lots are out of stock.

I buy all my plug plant perennials off eBay (small nurseries, amateur gardeners etc) - I haven't looked for veg but worth a look?

Elouera · 23/04/2020 09:32

Thanks, I've looked at ebay, but the majority are for collection only, and every few veg.

Have you looked at your local nurseries' websites and FB pages? All our local ones are delivering.

gamerchick · 23/04/2020 09:38

There's loads in b&m. I don't know where would deliver. Wilkos maybe.

gamerchick · 23/04/2020 09:40

And hear are seeds. Its not hard to grow your own seedlings from seed. Just make sure you have more compost than you think you need from the off though.

gamerchick · 23/04/2020 09:41

*they

dementedpixie · 23/04/2020 09:43

Check your local garden centres as a few near me are selling online and doing delivery. The one I got compost from are also doing veg seedlings as well as the usual bedding plants

Elouera · 23/04/2020 10:02

I'd very central London, so no garden centres/nurseries for miles, and can't find any that deliver! I've asked on 'nextdoor' so will see if anyone local knows.

@Elouera

That's a shame - I guess you are looking for something different to the veg I grow as there are loads of beans, lettuce even asparagus with free p&p. I've just put some runner beans in my basket as I've had a poor germination rate (old seed left in the greenhouse which gets too hot I guess?)

Elouera · 24/04/2020 09:39

@didireallysaythat- No, not looking for anything different at all- just looking for ANY vegetable seedlings. Ideally beans, tomato, courgette and /or some herbs! Ebay have some, but they are collection only (miles away), and often £5 a tiny plant!
My local Tesco and Sainsburys only has flowers.

Marshalls appear to have plenty online as do Dobies and other online suppliers. Delivery may be a bit slow but they have stock.

didireallysaythat · 24/04/2020 10:17

@Elouera

Hmm. Weird. Maybe what I find isn't what you are looking for

www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.Xvegetable+plug+plants.TRS0&_nkw=vegetable+plug+plants&_sacat=0

I don't know how to filter for free p&p but it might be possible.

Elouera · 24/04/2020 10:29

@didireallysaythat- I think its because I was searching for 'seedlings' and not 'plugs' Thanks.

@AnnofPeeves- I shall look those suggestions up- thanks.

Could you ask around on local Facebook groups? Someone might have some they’d be willing to leave at your door on their daily walk.
