Are plants safe in a small box sized bedroom?

My teen daughter unfortunately has the smallest room in the house, she also has slightly problematic lungs.
She's trying to redecorate her room and wants trailing ivy dangling from shelves near her bed. Dp advised against it saying that back in the day they advised against plants in bedrooms.
Understand that they produce carbon dioxide at night, but do you think 4 smallish plants in a box room would be hazardous?

Thank you

So do people. It's fine.

They are beneficial at night! You need to do a bit more reading about it - NASA recommends it!

The thing about not having plants in bedrooms is an old wives tale. A human breathes out way more carbon dioxide than a dozen plants would produce. Would you be happy for another person to be in the room with her? If so then it’s fine for a plant to be in there! The room isn’t airtight anyway - she’s hardly going to suffocate.

Completely fine. Ivy is crap though. There's much better thinks to choose from

It’s fine. I have fifteen plants in my bedroom.

Ive never had much luck growing ivy indoors.
It tends to go very sparse and leggy then sometimes mildewy.
It’s very much an outdoor plant in my opinion.

Pothos however I find quite good if she would maybe like that as an alternative?
Or spider plants?

A trailing philodendron is vaguely ivy-like and tolerates the low light conditions indoors.

It's fine

Something like string-of-hearts would look good and do better than ivy indoors. I wouldn’t worry about the carbon-dioxide aspect as plants won’t add much to what she breathes out herself.

Ah thank you everyone. Some suggestions for me to look up too. She's set on having trailing plants across her main wall... (something about it being like a curtain).

It's really hard to find reasonably priced indoor plants online though...

Lot's of small garden centres around us are offering to deliver phone orders if that helps.

Thanks I'll try my local one too!
