Fake grass

We will be having small ish garden at our new house. We have 2 large dogs. There will be plenty of deep beds and planting and several trees. Would it be a crime (eco-system-wise). to have artificial grass for the lawn?

Please don’t.
The world does not need more plastic!

Plastics leach into the soil and water as well and are then ingested by pretty much everything.

There’s no such thing as ‘eco friendly recycled’ fake grass either given that plastic can only be recycled a small number times before being land filled.

It doesn’t look as nice either, it can smell really really bad if the dogs pee on it and it can get hot underfoot as well in hot weather.

I can’t stand the stuff!

Train the dogs to toilet in a certain area and have a natural lawn, of hard wearing grass species or another hard wearing ground cover, clover for example

It can smell pretty disgusting if the dogs pee on it or worse.

You would have to clean it every day.

High maintainance- shite for the environment. I can’t see why anyone would want it to be honest

I love our artificial grass. Before we got it our garden was like a bog a lot of the time due to its position. It's was unsightly and unusable. Now we are able to use the garden all year round, and it's a pleasant place to spend time. Ours is made by Easigrass, they make one that's specially designed for pet owners.

No no no, please think of the wildlife, what about the poor blackbirds catching their worms for example? If everyone did this it would be an ecological disaster plus it looks very tacky.
Just get a decent thick grass.

Food for thought!

Exactly what i was thinking! Every day we have blackbirds finding worms, and a pair of pied wagtails come in and catch flies! The turf gets waterlogged and boggy during the winter and it's tempting to get rid, but we'd miss the birds coming if we put fake grass down.

It always looks awful. A friend of mine who is very wealthy boasted about her top of the range fancypants ultra realistic fake grass (so realistic it has brown bits in it). It’s still very obviously fake. And it just doesn’t feel nice to sit on. She’d have been better off paying for it to be returfed and then maintained by a lawn care company - and it would probably have been cheaper.
