This is a weed/dock isn’t it?

Completely ignorant garden owner here.

I was about to dig this today up as a weed and presumed it was a dock when I remember I once tried to plant hostas here but they were destroyed by slugs. I can’t remember the variety.

It seemed a bit neat for a dock but too rough and serrated for a hosta. It is a weed isn’t it?

Thanks

That’s a foxglove isn’t it?

It’s not a dock or a hosta. Possibly foxglove.

Definitely looks like a foxglove, or maybe a verbascum. Either could technically be a weed, but I’d welcome a free plant.

I think foxglove too.

Found this which I think should help www.jackravenbushcraft.co.uk/foxgloves-primroses-burdock-dock/amp/

Thank you so much, no way would I have guessed that although I have seen some foxgloves in the more wild area of the garden but I only really recognise them when they are in full flower and I had forgotten about them.”

Would you keep it? my youngest is 6 and would listen if I said it was poisonous. Are they troublesome?

Foxgloves are very pretty weeds, self seed and spread quite happily but are not troublesome as they are easy to identify and pull up if you want to get rid of them.

We have loads, they look great in the borders as they provide height and colour with zero effort. Not everyone likes them, but our garden is quite wild, so they suit it. I have young dcs, they understand that they are very poisonous and give them a wide birth. You need to be careful if you have visitors as not everyone realises how dangerous they are.

Thanks for all you help, I am going to let it be as that area could do with some colour.
