Hi,

Bought a house last year and this was left in the garden. I've been dutifully watering it but have no idea what it is?

Thank you!

It looks a bit like a blueberry.

It is a blueberry. We have one in a tub and get lovely berries in the summer

Ohhhh thank you! Any tips for keeping it happy and productive?

They like acidic soil s an ericaceous feed will keep it happy if your soil is neutral/alkaline. A mulch of pine needle leaf mould is also good.

Another small tip......They also like rainwater, so if you can, try to avoid tapwater if possible (but they shouldn't dry out, so if that's all you have, better to keep them watered than not. If that makes sense!).

TBH, we just leave ours to it. It's in a big pot on the patio. If it doesn't rain for a while I water it with the house pipe. It's planted in compost from our compost bin, so no idea if that's alkali or acidic.
We get loads of big, juicy blueberries every year.

Mine is a bit sad and barren looking so think it's in need of some TLC and possibly a much bigger pot.

It's in one of those wooden barrel style ones at the moment so need to replace the pot anyway as it's falling apart..
