How much do landscape gardeners charge?

I've two landscape gardeners coming this week. One of them wants to know my budget.

My garden is small (9mx5m).

It's dawned on me that I have no idea how much this is likely to be?!

I probably want a new patio, couple of raised beds and possibly a base for a shed. But if they design something WOW then I might want to stretch a bit.

Would anyone mind sharing how much they have paid for a garden redesign?

@whereiscaroline how did you get on OP? Would you mind sharing your garden designers Instagram, looking for a design we can slowly do ourselves

@Extrapepperoni not great!

The garden designer's ideas were a bit uninspiring to be honest. Probably due to my budget, in fairness to her. There wasn't a design I wanted to spend £5k on.

I ended up doing a cheap DIY makeover - stencilled patio, painted fences, and was pleased enough with the outcome.

Now I'm moving to another new build and will have the same problem again...

If you're looking for a garden designer then search the hashtag on Instagram and you'll find a few. Any that do remote work usually say so in their bio.

Good news about the new house OP.

Extrapepperoni if you don’t mind putting pictures up up your garden I’m sure people on here can give you a few ideas as a point.

A friend is doing her garden . I got her to think about what she wanted and to draw a plan. She has drawn the patio and paths in first then decided where she wants her planting areas to be, an arch leading to a patio at the back of the garden, allocated space for a vegetable patch and a plan for screening the oil tank. We had a think about the plants she would like, she had some she knew she wanted and had an idea of style so worked out a planting plan. She’s got a local guy coming to dig out some curved shape beds and he’ll plant what she’s bought.

The patio will go in later which is different way round to how things are usually done ie. hard landscaping first but because she has drawn it out she knows where it’s all going and this way doing the cheaper bit gets the plants in the ground and establishing then the hard landscaping can be done later and she’ll get the benefit of nicely planted beds this summer as putting in annuals around the perennials to fill whilst perennials establishing.

This wouldn’t work if garden was very small and the laying of the patio would cause damage to the planting due to space constraints or if there was levelling etc to be done .

@whereiscaroline I love that stencilled patio. I would never have thought of doing that but it looks great.
