Unknown plant - anyone know?

Just that really- been a bit neglectful the past year or so and this has appeared in my bluebell patch - anyone know what it us?

some sort of Skimmia?

Hypericum? It looks familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

Rather - i think there is an established hypericum bush right next the plant's in question. I had wondered if it was connected but these new shoots, the leaves are a lot bigger and some reddish in colour

It has opposite leaves which rules out Skimmia. Hypericum looks a good shout.
