Weed and Feed rust stains on patio - SUCCESS!

I have almost threatened to divorce DH this week after he decided to put Evergreen 4 in 1 on our back lawn but failed to realise that any spillages, damp footprints from the product etc. results in vile orange rust stains. 😡. My beautiful, immaculate patio paving stones were wrecked and I struggled to find anything to remove these stains. ☹️

I tried white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, strong patio cleaner etc. to no avail.

As a last resort - whilst imagining a huge bill following lockdown to have a new patio laid - I remembered I had some of this hg.eu/uk/products/hg-tiles-cement-grout-film-remover-product-11 lurking under the sink. (Not what is listed for at all but what did I have to lose.)

Absolutely fantastic job! Not a rust spot in sight and absolutely no effort whatsoever. I am effervescent with happiness. (Yes I know, I need to get out more 😂).

Seriously though, on the internet it was saying these stains are virtually impossible to get rid of but this product is amazing. Hope this helps anyone else who may have suffered a similar “accident” unless it is only my DH who is such a dimwit at times. 🙄

Hi 'Rafflesway'.
would you be able to say how you used it? did you put the solution over the whole patio as it mentions in the video on the link you provided. Or did you spot treat the rust spots.
We have Indian Sandstone, so assuming it'll be fine for that too.
Many thanks,
David

Hi KingDavid10

Tried to DM you but message wouldn't go through sorry. ☹️

I just treated the actual rust spots! It does leave a white, powdery residue but I just kept rinsing it off and brushing with a hard yard brush and they have now totally gone and everything back to normal now.

Not sure about Indian Sandstone though as ours is just plain, cream paving slabs but you could give it a try in an inconspicuous area.

Rust spots are an absolute pain aren't they? So little info of how to get rid of them too.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Just ruined a white linen top with Tomatorite. Do you have any suggestions for getting those stains out? Please 😢

Hi, my husband has done the same thing. Before seeing your post I have tried bleach with no result. Could you tell me how many applications it took you before you could see a difference. Many thanks

The information on that grout remover says it contains phosphoric and oxalic acids

hg.eu/media/esnlovxn/0510100210006.pdf

If you Google 'phosphoric acid rust' and 'oxalic acid rust', there's info on using each of these for rust removal.

Did you put it on neat or mix the solution? Thank you x
