Planting a camellia - any tips?

Before lockdown I ordered a lovely big camellia. It's about 4 foot tall, really pretty pink flowers. It was delivered last week and I'd like to plant it this weekend but there were minimal generic instructions with it. Is there anything I need to do in particular? Should I leave it in it's pot for a little while longer until the weather warms up?

It was expensive and an investment to liven up my tatty garden in preparation for the summer (!) and I really don't want to do it wrong and kill it. I'm not green fingered at all.
TIA.

Yes, they don’t like the early morning sun, so probably plant facing west. They also like more acid soil, so ideally you will have that ph. Maybe get some ericaceous compost to dig in with it? Now is a good time to plant shrubs though so you shouldn’t need to wait.

Thank you Didusfalco. The plot I'm planting in gets light later in the day so that is good to know. Thanks for replying.

Not too dry or too hot. My semi shaded, eastfacing and northfacing ones do well and are currently in bloom. The south facing one struggles in the heat despite watering, and then flowers in november when the horrid sun has gone.
Acid soil a huge plus.

yes definitely needs ericaceous compost.....you can buy planted for camellias so i'd try that too

I’ve several camellias that were in the garden when we bought the house, and one I planted last year which was your size, the others are massive, as in twenty foot tall size, others are shorter but several foot wide. My husband jokes it’s the one thing that grows in our garden,

They say they don’t like full sun, but what kind of camellia is it exactly? Some tolerate sun better than others, My new one gets full sun at times in the afternoon and it’s fine and flowering again now, and growing well. I planted it with old leaves as they love that apparently and mulched some in again last weekend.
