Hi, have got some established bushes in our garden which I’ve never taken a huge amount of notice of but would now like to turn my attention to that part (the garden could be most accurately described as the Forth Bridge of gardens - so we have tried to tackle one bit at a time while leaving lots of wild patches alone so the wildlife aren’t disturbed).

Have a couple of unidentified specimens for you - excuse my lack of knowledge, I’m keen but clueless (a winning combination no doubt!)

If anyone can help me identify would be most grateful! I think there is a lilac bush behind there which I am hoping to expose if I can cut these back without damaging them.

Thanks!

Does the first one smell lovely? If so it could be Osmanthus birkwoodii.

The second looks like a Sarcoccoca of some kind.

Have lost my sense of smell (Been ill in bed for a couple of weeks with symptoms), so can’t tell, but will look both suggestions up - thanks for the suggestions!
