Memorial plant/flower for 1 March?

My wonderful grandmother passed away last summer so still very raw, it is her birthday on 1 March. Also St David’s Day and she was Welsh. I would love to have something in my garden that flowers round about her birthday that I can plant to remember her by. We always have daffodils at this time of year which remind us of her but would love something in the garden/allotment too.

Sorry for your loss, longlegged.Flowers

I'm not being flippant (my mother's family is Welsh) but what about leeks? (Confession: I love leeks).

Thank you, I was thinking more of a flower or shrub rather than vegetables though she would probably find that funny and thrifty!

Sorry for your loss. Planting is such a lovely idea.

Azaleas and some Viburnum are in flower at that time. Perhaps with some research, there is a variety named after her or something that has a significant meaning. Such as Eve Price or Lisarose Viburnums or Jolie Madame Azalea. ( not suggesting those specifically, but you get the idea )

I’d go for a hellebore orientalis. They’re one of the first spring flowers and I think they’re beautiful. Long lived plants as well which will make a decent clump if they’re happy.

I would go for yellow winter aconite. They will spread every year and are beautiful.

Japanese quince is flowering now but the branches don’t have lots of leaves - it’s more the flowers on the branches. I really love the contrast of the deep red flowers and the branches though.

It’s a lovely way to remember your grandmother, I’m about to buy an ornamental cherry tree memory of my mum after a suggestion on this board.

What a lovely idea Flowers

Camellias and daphnes are currently in bloom and absolutely beautiful.

I took these pictures today. The camellia isn't mine, unfortunately!!

The daphne has the most beautiful scent too
